Rising 4,237 feet above sea level, Sugarloaf Mountain in the Carrabassett Valley is the second highest peak in Maine, standing head and shoulders above its surrounding 4,000-foot brethren. Even at first glance, it's obvious that Sugarloaf is unlike other mountains. Its elevation and northern location provide the only lift serviced above-treeline skiing in the East, and its 2,820 vertical feet give it the most continuous vertical in New England, and a larger vertical drop than several western resorts. Boundary to boundary, Sugarloaf is massive, with 1,400 skiable acres, including 651 acres and 54 miles of developed trails, all serviced by 16 lifts, including two high speed and two high capacity quads. Sugarloaf's northern location and abundant snowfall also provide guests with the longest season of any eastern resort, starting in early November and frequently continuing all the way into May. 95 percent of Sugarloaf's legendary terrain is covered by a dependable snowmaking system.
Despite its northern location, Sugarloaf is easily accessible. Portland and Bangor offer major airport service, and major metropolitan areas such as Montreal and Boston are only four hours away. Once they arrive at Sugarloaf, guests will find all the amenities they need, with numerous options for dining and nightlife, on mountain retail shopping, full service spa facilities, as well as luxurious and affordable on mountain lodging opportunities. And with numerous activities for children and adults alike, including ice skating, Nordic skiing, indoor swimming, rock climbing, basketball, and movie nights, Sugarloaf is an ideal family resort with our KIDS SKI FREE programme and value for money pricing.
The best food at the Loaf can be found off mountain at Hugs (Italian), Tufulios (a bit of everything) and The Rack (bbq, brews and bands). |
