Best Value US Ski Resorts for Last Minute Holidays
If you're thinking about a late ski holiday to the US this winter, your choice could come down to the cost of the lift pass!
If you haven't already purchased an Epic Pass for this season - the cost of skiing at any of the Vail Resorts-owned ski areas such as Breckenridge, Vail, Heavenly or Park City is eye-wateringly expensive with the average daily lift ticket price being up to $200 a day. So no matter what the cost of the flight and lodging comes out at - few people are prepared to pay over £1,000pp for a 6 day lift ticket which can often be the case.
So where do you find value skiing in the US between now and the end of the season?
Mammoth in California usually has great late season snow (last year it was open until Aug!) and offers reasonable lodging prices and more importantly, some of the best value lift tickets in the US for last minute skiing.
Daily direct flights for Mammoth are into Los Angeles with BA, Virgin, United & American, (we recommend overnighting on arrival at an airport hotel) then a 6hr drive up to the resort.
The best value property here is the Mammoth Mountain Inn.
Arguably, the best value resort in Colorado with a great ski area, slopeside lodging and a short 90 min transfer from Denver, Winter Park is underrated and usually is good for late snow.
The lfit tickets may be a bit punchy in price but the lodging is quite reasonable. Daily direct flgihts with United and BA into Denver.
The best value property here is the Vintage Resort Hotel.
Jackson offers some of the cheapest hotel prices of any US ski resort as it's main season is in the summer, being on the doorstep of Yellowstone National Park.
So hotel prices are often cheaper than Europe.
The lift tickets can be expensive but they do offer Ski 10 Days for the price of 7 which starts to make sense.
Flights into Jackson Hole are usually with United, Delta or American with a 1 plane change if you're flying from London and the resort is only 15 mins from the airport so no expensive transfers.
The best value property here is the Elk Country Inn.
This will be the most expensive resort on our list here but they do offer some good value lift ticket deals, including their SKi10 and SKI30 deals as well as KIds Ski Free if they rent equipment from Four Monuntain sports.
For Aspen, you fly into the local airport with United or American with a 1 plane change.
The best value property here is the Stonebridge Inn in Snowmass or the Hearthstone House in Aspen.
Flights
if you're looking to keep the holiday price down, you can save money on flights.
We can quote for indirect flights to Los Angeles or Denver which can often be a lot cheaper than the direct services. Even if you do indirect one way and direct the other - it can make it better value.
You would need to call us for these fares.
